Since its announcement last week, Battlefield 2042 has been one of the most talked about upcoming games. After the gameplay reveal during E3’s Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase, it goes without saying that fans are scrambling to find out as much about the game as possible.
With Battlefield 2042, DICE is trying something new: bots. “Also new is the introduction of AI Soldiers (Artificial Intelligence) to the series. As a multiplayer-only experience, it’s important for us to let you play Battlefield 2042 when and how you want,” this EA post explains.
Bots will work in three ways. For pure multiplayer mayhem, bots will be used to fill servers and ensure that players enjoy an optimal experience. Battlefield 2042‘s multiplayer is massive in scope, with up to 128 players in a match. It makes sense that AI players will fill any gaps in the player count.
Of course, players on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One might not notice too many bots in their lobbies, because previous-generation consoles limit match sizes to 64 players.
You can also use bots to set up a co-op match with friends. If you want to jump in solo and get some practice before heading into the real thing, you will also be able to play alone against AI soldiers.
Introducing bots into the game will also undoubtedly have a positive effect on the game’s longevity. For players booting up the game further in the future, it will be easier to jump into a game.
Battlefield 2042 is set for release on October 22, 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
