Cyberpunk 2077 Has A New Game Director

Cyberpunk 2077 has a new director at its helm.

According to an article posted on gamesindustry.biz, CD Projekt Red recently named Gabriel Amatangelo as the game’s new director.

Yesterday Cyberpunk 2077‘s previous game director, Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz, announced that he was stepping down from his position and leaving CD Projekt Red.

Amatangelo joined the company in January 2020 as creative director for the game. According to his resume, his previous work include a position as design director on Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC and lead designer on expansions for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

In his new position, Amatangelo will take the lead on expansions for Cyberpunk 2077.

The game launched in December 2020 to an overwhelmingly negative reception. Plagued by multiple performance and quality issues, especially on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the game was heavily criticized by press and gamers worldwide. Shortly after the game’s launch, Sony even pulled it from the PlayStation Store.

CD Projekt Red continues to support Cyberpunk 2077 and work towards improving many of the issues from launch. The game’s latest hotfix, 1.22, went live on April 28, 2021.
